HUFF ENJOYS SPA OUTING
Despite missing out on another points-scoring finish, Rob Huff nevertheless
declared the second WTCC race at the fabulous Spa-Francorchamps circuit one
of the most enjoyable races he'd ever had. The 25 year-old from Cambridge,
qualified 19th for the first of two races around the spectacular circuit
high in the Ardennes region of Belgium after the typically unpredictable
weather proved difficult for the RML-prepared Chevrolet Lacetti team.
In race one held over eight laps of the 4.347 mile Grand Prix track, Rob
suffered a broken driveshaft on the green flag lap, which forced the former
SEAT Cupra Champion and BTCC double-race winner into the pits for repairs,
losing him four laps. He rejoined the race though to take the flag although
he was unclassified as a finisher.
Starting the second race from 26th on the grid, Rob opted for slick tyres,
the tricky conditions suiting him and a fantastic start saw him take four
places at Eau Rouge before he began an amazing drive through the field,
which saw him up to eighth. Things were looking good for an eighth place
finish until he was hit from behind and into another car which pushed him
wide.
The safety car was deployed and at the restart over one flying lap, a rare
error cost him three places but he recovered to finish 11th at the flag.
"That second race really was one of the most enjoyable ever," said Rob at
the finish. "I made the decision to start on slicks from the back of the grid,
because I feel very comfortable in those sorts of conditions and it was great
fun, loads of slipping and sliding. I made a mistake which cost me around
three or four places otherwise we'd have been in for another good finish
but overall I'm reasonably happy with how I went."
Rob now enjoys another month off before the next double-header rounds, at
the Oschersleben track in Germany on August 27/28.
