HUFF ON TOP OF THE WORLD

Rob Huff totally dominated the 14th round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship at Brno in the Czech Republic this afternoon. The 25 year-old started the 10 lap race from pole position and held off reigning World Champion Andy Priaulx all the way to the flag to clinch his first WTCC victory and secure the race's fastest lap.

The day's first race also saw Rob on superb form, the multiple BTCC race winner driving a storming race from 24th on the grid to finish in an amazing eighth place, passing more than ten cars on the way. The former SEAT Cupra Champion from Cambridge recovered well after securing a stunning fourth quickest time in qualifying but which later pushed him down to 24th following his enforced engine change.

"After the crash in Mexico, we obviously had to change the engine and the rules dictate that you must drop ten places. Then because my quickest lap was done when the yellow flag was out, I was penalised another ten places dropping me almost down to last."

Despite that though, the determined Huff went into race one fired up and confident of improving his position at the flag. A superb opening lap saw him cross the line in a remarkable 15th place at the end of lap one and throughout the next nine laps he stormed through the field crossing the line eighth to line-up on pole for the afternoon's second race.

Lining up alongside his Chevrolet Lacetti team-mate Alain Menu, Rob made the perfect getaway, taking an immediate lead as Menu dropped behind a fast-starting Priaulx into third. For ten laps, Rob controlled the race at the front, posting the quickest lap, to take his first win and the second for Chevrolet.

"Unbelievable, absolutely fantastic," said a delighted Rob at the flag. "After the downside of Mexico when I left the circuit in a helicopter on the way to hospital, to come here and take my first WTCC win is, well, just amazing. No-one would have expected to come back after that crash and win. Even this morning after qualifying fourth but then having to drop right down the order, I didn't think it was possible to come back and take a victory.

"But I did, and am now in the history books for becoming the first driver to win from 24th on the grid! "This win is for Chevrolet and the Ray Mallock Team. They've done a remarkable job to rebuild a car in a week and produce a race-winning car for me this weekend. I made a belting start in race two and there was no way I was letting Andy through. I knew in a straight line I was quicker than him and I knew if I could just keep it clean I'd be OK. I still can't quite believe it though!"

Rob will now turn his attentions to the 24-hour Britcar race at Silverstone next weekend when he will join the winning team from last year and pilot the Mardi Gras-prepared Honda Civic. Rob will join John George, Phil Bennett, Ed Pead and Mark Lemmer as they bid to reproduce the form of last year's event where they finished first and second in the production class.
