The sporting stars of 3004 were crowned at a glittering Cambridge Evening News Sports Awards evening at the Cambridge Belfry.

Radio Five Live presenter Mark Saggers compered the night after more than 3,000 votes had been cast to choose the winners in the seven categories.

The main winners were motorsport ace Robert Huff, who was crowned Sportsman of the Year, and Fran Williamson, the paralympian who was named Sportswoman of the Year.

Robert also won the award in 2001, and said: "It was brilliant then but to repeat it again three years later is even better.

"I've had a fantastic season, but there were some fantastic sportspeople up for the award.

"I'd like to thank the Cambridge Evening News very much for their support and congratulate all the other winners.

"It's been a great night and I think Cambridge deserves this night.

"It's great that everyone's sporting talents are recognised and celebrated and hopefully I can come back and make it a hat-trick next year."

Swimmer Mark Foster was runner-up and athlete Daniel West was third.
