After much speculation Cambridge driver Rob Huff has been confirmed to drive
the third RML prepared Chevrolet Lacetti in the 2005 World Touring Car
Championship. Huff, who burst onto the British touring car scene this season,
taking two wins and a string of podium finishes, will join experienced touring
car drivers Alain Menu and Nicola Larini following a hugely successful debut
season with SEAT UK.
The 24 year-old whose victory in the 2003 Holiday SEAT Cupra Championship
led to an all expenses paid drive in the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car
Championship proved the sensation of the championship helping his team to
11 wins and 18 podium finishes in its first season. Now the driver who held
off former BTCC title-holders Vauxhall duo James Thompson and Yvan Muller
to take a stunning second victory at this home track is relishing the
prospect of competing on the world stage.
"This is the biggest thing that has ever happened to me, I thought getting
a drive in the BTCC was great but getting this drive really is a dream come
true when you consider it's all down to my performances in my first season
in touring cars. I think the race at Snetterton was the one that clinched
it for me, to hold off former champions Muller and Thomo all the way through
the race was great, that really was the drive of my life and one that I think
really impressed RML.
"I'm delighted to be running with them again too. They're a great team and
the best bunch of guys I've worked with and I think they're all happy that
I'm coming back."
Rob will commence testing in January in preparation for the world series
which kicks off at Monza in Italy in April and takes in some of the top
European tracks in addition to races in Mexico and Macau.
