DOUBLE PODIUM FOR HUFF

  • Robert scores two second places at Croft

Rob Huff (Cambridge) took the second step on the podium again at Croft today – this time twice in one weekend making up for the exclusion at Mondello Park at the last outing. Driving a SEAT Toledo Cupra, his results have moved him up two places in the championship tables to lie eighth.

Rob's first race of the day boosted his championship position by bagging another six points for finishing fifth. After losing position at the start he regained and then pushed hard to catch James Thompson.

"I got a mediocre start but managed to keep pace. At the first corner Chilton turned into me and sent me into the gravel but I managed to get it back and settle in. I passed Dan Eaves and then reeled in Thompson but there wasn't enough time to get past."

That result put him fifth on the grid again but race two's start was a different story. He drove outstandingly to move up into third and then managed to get past Eaves again, this time for a second place behind team-mate Plato and a SEAT one-two.

"I got a great start this time and just went round the outside to third from the first corner. Then I managed to get round Dan – again on the outside – I was quite impressed myself! Jason got away but towards the end I pulled back a bit. Fantastic."

Race three was dominated by Rob and Plato from the start. Rob got the lead from the first corner which he held for five laps until pre-determined team tactics came into play, where he allowed Plato through and into the lead. He then had to withstand a strong challenge from Thompson and then Turkington but crossed the line for another well-earned podium place.

"I'm delighted with our second one-two of the weekend, it's been a mega day. Jason and I agreed before the race that we'd help each other keep the 1-2 formation into the first corner and if it looked like I wouldn't be able to keep position I'd go around the outside, which I did. It was great to be leading but I felt I should repay the favour as he's fighting for third in the championship so I let him through a few laps later although I know I had the pace to have won.

"Then it was a case of keeping up the pace and keeping the others behind, Thomo made it difficult for a couple of laps and then Turkington was flying! It's been a fantastic day – one of my best ever at this level. A huge thank you to SEAT for the opportunity and everyone in the team."
